A piece about the constant rush to get somewhere, which we heard narrated by Müşfik Kenter, was the starting point for this article. The narrator should not be confused with the author; because I could not verify its authorship, I do not attribute the text to Müşfik Kenter here.
What do we miss while trying to keep up?
Making it to a meeting, answering a message, meeting a deadline… We can easily describe how full a day was. Sometimes it is harder to say what we gave our attention to that day.
Finishing work on time matters. But when we give all our attention to the next task, we can begin to experience the present moment merely as a stop to pass through.
The reminder I take from this text is not to confuse busyness with life itself. Listening without interrupting, noticing our surroundings on a short walk or truly making time for someone we love can also be part of the day.
We can leave ourselves a small question: what did I manage to complete today, and what did I truly notice?
